What causes Earth’s seasons?

From MSNBC

The seasons are a powerful force in our lives. They affect the activities we do, the foods we crave, the clothes we wear — and quite often, the moods we are in. On Sunday, autumn officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere, while spring starts in the Southern Hemisphere.

What is it that causes the change in seasons

The ability to predict the seasons — by tracking the rising and setting points of the sun throughout the year — was key to survival in ancient times. Babylonians, Mayans and other cultures developed complex systems for monitoring seasonal shifts. But it took centuries more to unravel the science behind the seasons.

Bohemian Grove

Certain words and phrases are and will always be connected with conspiracy. Consider the following:

JFK Assassination

9/11

Roswell

Those things can rarely be talked about without a conspiracy being mentioned.

Let me give you another phrase that is surrounded in conspiracy:

Bohemian Grove

I know this is not a new story, and I have very little new to offer. What I try to do here at Worldview is bring together some of the best resources all in one place. So if a person is researching a topic, this blog can prove to be invaluable.

So let's see what we can learn about the Bohemian Grove.

Bohemian Grove is an 11 km² (2700 acre) campground located at 20601 Bohemian Avenue, in Monte Rio, California,[1] belonging to a private San Francisco-based men's art club known as the Bohemian Club. In mid-July each year, Bohemian Grove hosts a three-week encampment of some of the most powerful men in the world. Source: Wikipedia

With the combination of secrecy, power, and an elite bias, the Bohemian Grove has been a target for protest for many years. Specifically, the Bohemian Grove Action Network organizes protests and has aided journalists who wish to penetrate the secrecy surrounding the encampment. Over the years, individuals have infiltrated the Grove then later published video and claimed accounts of the activities at Bohemian Grove. Source Wikipedia

Finding an article about the grove on Wikipedia is not really that surprising. Trying to find a major news service that has articles or any information about the grove is very difficult. This is surprising considering how much the grove is talked about across the Internet. In my search of the Major News agencies for information I did find the following interesting tidbit:

In the summer of 2003, Karl Rove flew off to Bohemian Grove—the famed male-only retreat for the wealthy and powerful—where he had a revealing exchange in the Northern California woods about the state of affairs in Iraq. Spotting AOL founder James Kimsey, a big financial backer of President Bush who had just gotten back from Baghdad, Rove shouted out: “Hey Kimsey, it must have been wonderful to see the happy faces on all those liberated Iraqis!”

Kimsey was appalled. “Are you nuts?” he replied. He tried to tell the president’s political guru that the Iraqis he saw were sullen and resentful and that “if we don’t do something soon, all hell is going to break loose.”
But Rove wanted to hear nothing of it. “Nice talking to you,” Rove responded and walked away.

You can read the entire article from which the above was taken here: The Architect and the War

This article does support the claim that many of the most powerful people in the world go to the grove each year.

While searching for even more information I found this:

Peter Phillips is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Sonoma State University and Director of Project Censored He wrote his dissertation on the Bohemian Club in 1994.

There is also an article credited to him:
San Francisco Bohemian Club: Power, Prestige and GIobalism

Since there is not a lot of the major news agencies producing stories about the Bohemian Grove, people are left with the large number of videos on the Internet about the Grove.

I am going to provide links to a number of them for people to view and research for themselves.

On July 15, 2000, Austin, Texas-based journalist and filmmaker Alex Jones and his cameraman, Mike Hanson, became the first people [citation needed] to successfully infiltrate the Grove and make it out with documented evidence. With hidden cameras, Jones and Hanson were able to film the Cremation of Care ritual. The footage was the centerpiece of Jones' documentary, Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove. Source: Wikipedia

The above fact makes the Video "Dark Secrets" one of the most famous.

DARK SECRETS: INSIDE BOHEMIAN GROVE
To watch the video follow this link:
Dark Secrets

Also filmed for The Order of Death was Jones' return to the entrance of the Bohemian Grove in 2005 where he filmed a protest organized by the Bohemian Grove Action Network that took place at the Grove's entrance on Bohemian Highway, only to discover a majority of the protesters engaging in an "occult counter-ritual", supposedly a counter-ritual against the "Cremation of Care". Source Wikipedia

That should be enough information and links to keep anyone busy.

Eritrea 'arming' Somali militia

It was June 2006 when I posted a few articles telling everyone to watch Somali. I felt that events occurring there could become an issue for the U.S. Government. Today I want to point people to more information concerning Somali.
You can read some of my previous post on Somali here: Past Post

Eritrea 'arming' Somali militia

Insurgents in Somalia have received huge numbers of weapons in secret shipments from Eritrea, the UN says.

There are now more arms in Somalia than at any time since the civil war started in 1991, the UN report says.

You can read the entire report here: militia

In the comments section of my article, "US warns Eritrea" Simon Mace wrote some interesting comments that provided some information about Somalia and Ethiopia.
He also provided a link to the following video:

US role in planning Ethiopia's invasion.

I will continue to say that I think at some point Somali is going to become a bigger issue for the U.S.

US warns Eritrea

Listen carefully, the next question is worth $500.00!

Tell me two things about Eritrea?

You are proably thinking, I have never even heard of Eritrea. Don't feel bad I predict most people haven't either. So why am I posting something about Eritrea? Simple, we may not know much about Eritrea but it appears the U.S. goverment has been paying close attention to it.

From the BBC:
The US has issued Eritrea with its strongest warning yet over its alleged support for terrorism.

Before I give all the information from that story let me give some basic facts about Eritrea:

From Wikipedia:
Eritrea (Ge'ez: ኤርትራ ʾĒrtrā) is a country situated in northern East Africa. It is bordered by Sudan in the west, Ethiopia in the south, and Djibouti in the southeast. The east and northeast of the country have an extensive coastline on the Red Sea, directly across from Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The Dahlak Archipelago and several of the Hanish Islands are part of Eritrea.

From the CIA Factbook:
Eritrea was awarded to Ethiopia in 1952 as part of a federation. Ethiopia's annexation of Eritrea as a province 10 years later sparked a 30-year struggle for independence that ended in 1991 with Eritrean rebels defeating governmental forces; independence was overwhelmingly approved in a 1993 referendum. A two-and-a-half-year border war with Ethiopia that erupted in 1998 ended under UN auspices in December 2000. Eritrea currently hosts a UN peacekeeping operation that is monitoring a 25 km-wide Temporary Security Zone on the border with Ethiopia. An international commission, organized to resolve the border dispute, posted its findings in 2002. However, both parties have been unable to reach agreement on implementing the decision. In November 2006, the international commission informed Eritrea and Ethiopia they had one year to demarcate the border or the border demarcation would be based on coordinates.

Now let's look at why the U.S. goverment is issuing a warning:

US gives stark warning to Eritrea
By Elizabeth Blunt BBC News, Addis Ababa

The US has issued Eritrea with its strongest warning yet over its alleged support for terrorism.
A senior US official said the presence of an exiled Somali Islamist leader in Asmara this week was further evidence Eritrea gave sanctuary to terrorists.

The gathering of further intelligence could lead to Eritrea being named as a state sponsor of terrorism - followed by sanctions, the official said.

The Eritrean government has accused the US of deliberate distortion.
A full scale war of words is now going on between Eritrea and the United States.

The US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Jendayi Frazer, said the presence of Hassan Dahir Uways at a meeting in Asmara was further evidence that Eritrea provided sanctuary for terrorists.

Rogue state

The Eritrean ministry of information website has just published a 35-point condemnation of US foreign policy accusing Jendayi Frazer herself of deliberate distortion.

Speaking at the end of a visit to neighbouring Ethiopia, Miss Frazer said that Eritrea's nasty words about the US were not a significant concern.

What had got her government's attention was Eritrea's actions to destabilise other countries in the Horn of Africa and, in particular, evidence that they were harbouring terrorists.
Miss Frazer said that this was about more than just simply considering Eritrea as a rogue state in the region.

It was quite specifically Eritrea's relationship with recognised terrorists which could lead to its designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.

This, in turn, she said would bring a change in the nature of its relationship with the US and in the ability of the US and other countries to provide assistance to Eritrea's government.

CAN YOU FIX IRAQ?

FIX IRAQ

March 2003 is an important point in time because that marks the beginning of the current war in Iraq. I must admit that I was not completely supportive of the war from the beginning, and as each day passes, I have grown more and more upset about what has happened.

THE ECONOMIC COST OF THE WAR:

Yet the costs for Pentagon operations are likely to pile up in years ahead. By 2010, war expenses might total $600 billion, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Much depends on when - and how many - US military personnel can be withdrawn from the Iraqi theater of operations. SOURCE: The rising economic cost of the Iraq war

The same report also contained the following quote:
One estimate of the military price tag: $5 billion each month.

Can anyone imagine 5 billion dollars a month? I know that I cannot.

A new study by Columbia University economist Joseph E. Stiglitz, who won the Nobel Prize in economics in 2001, and Harvard lecturer Linda Bilmes concludes that the total costs of the Iraq war could top the $2 trillion mark. Reuters reports this total, which is far above the US administration's prewar projections, takes into account the long term healthcare costs for the 16,000 US soldiers injured in Iraq so far: SOURCE: Report: Iraq war costs could top $2 trillion

The economic cost of this war has grown to a level that no normal person can even begin to understand!

THE HUMAN COST:

United States Soldiers:

As I am typing this, I just saw the following headline:

U.S. military: 7 troops killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military on Friday announced the deaths of seven more American troops in combat, including four in Anbar province, the Sunni stronghold where U.S. officials say a tribal revolt against al-Qaida in Iraq has brought dramatic improvements in security. Source: IRAQ

The same story reports: Those deaths raised to at least 3,760 members of the U.S. military who have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
Civilian casualties: This number is controversial, so let me point you to a few sources:

Iraq Body Count: http://www.iraqbodycount.org/
They report:
71,302 – 77,852 civilians have been killed.

U.N.: 14,000 Iraqis killed in 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/18/iraq.main/index.html
More than 14,000 civilians have been killed in Iraq in the first half of this year, an ominous figure reflecting the fact that "killings, kidnappings and torture remain widespread" in the war-torn country, a United Nations report says.

The sources may differ on the total, but almost everyone agrees that you are talking about almost 50,000 civilians that have been killed.

There is a website that has a lot more information about the cost of the war. You can read it at this link:
A FAILED "TRANSITION": THE MOUNTING COSTS OF THE

Now that we have looked at the cost, I want us to consider some of the latest news reports that may show what we have gotten for our money and our blood:

Iraqi Government Gets Poor Grade from GAO

GAO Report: Iraq Falls Short of Benchmarks

Report on Iraq's National Police Shows Inefficiency

Petraeus Says Progress in Iraq `Uneven,' National Unity Lacking

I could post many more headlines, but most readers of this blog are probably already familiar with what is going on in Iraq.

The question is simple - what is the solution? The first thing should be obvious to everyone, so why is some guy who has a blog trying to figure this out? The government of the United States should be working to resolve this issue, but after all this time people are dying and money is being spent at a rate that no one can even fathom. It seems obvious the government cannot come up with a solution. So is there a solution?

A few things must be considered as one tries to develop a plan:

You must ask the following of any proposed solution:

1. What will be the immediate consequences? If we pull out all the troops soon and too quickly, most agree that the country will descend into a full-blown civil war. There would possibly be mass killings between Sunnis and Shiites. The death toll could be large. The argument against this is very simple. With the United States there, around 50,000 civilians have died anyway! So, we stay civilians die we leave civilians die.

2. What will the long-term consequences be? If we pull out, Iraq could end up being controlled by Iran and become a major problem for us down the road. But the argument against this is simple as well. If we stay for years we may prevent this from happening, but at what cost? How many billions do we really have? We save Iraq from Iran and terrorists, but we economically destroy the United States!

There could possibly be some other questions that are important, but I think the long term and short-term consequences are the most important.

So readers and fellow bloggers of all ages, can you write out a possible solution to the situation in Iraq? It is obvious the government we pay to resolve situations like this seem to be incapable of doing so, therefore, it is left to us. I want people to take a few hours to research what is going on and try to actually formulate a reasonable plan and post it on your blog and send me the link so I can point people to it. If you don’t have a blog, then send it to me and I will post it here at Worldview. You can send your Iraq plan here:
Tsrk30@sbcglobal.net

I will continue to read and research and see if I can formulate a plan myself. If I do so, I will post it here.

Martina McBride - Anyway

Anyway

Martina McBride/Brad Warren/Brett Warren (BMI)

You can spend your whole life buildin' Somethin' from nothin'

One storm can come and blow it all away

Build it anyway

You can chase a dream

That seems so out of reach

And you know it might not ever come your way

Dream it anyway

(Chorus)

God is great, but sometimes life ain't good

When I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should

But I do it anyway

I do it anyway

This world's gone crazy and it's hard to believe

That tomorrow will be better than today

Believe it anyway

You can love someone with all your heart

For all the right reasons

And in a moment they can choose to walk away

Love 'em anyway

(Repeat Chorus)

You can pour your soul out singin'A song you believe in

That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang

Sing it anyway

Yeah sing it anyway

I sing

I dream

I love anyway

PRESIDENT BUSH AND ALIENS

I love the Internet for so many reason. It gives me access to information in seconds, and you never know what you will find! Just a few minutes ago I came across the following story. You really have to see this to believe it. To truly appreciate the story, some readers may need some background information. The first thing you need to know is the term " Greys " What is a Grey, you ask? I am glad you asked:

Greys

In Ufology, Greys, also known as Roswell aliens, Zetas, and Reticulians, are alleged extraterrestrial life forms that appear in modern UFO conspiracy theories and other UFO-related paranormal phenomena. They make up approximately 75 percent of all aliens reported in the US, 20 percent of all aliens reported in Mainland Europe, and 12 percent of all aliens reported in Britain.[1] In American popular culture they have replaced little green men as the most typical extraterrestrial life form. SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA

Here is a picture:

What do Greys have to do with President Bush?

Here is the answer:

Do you see the Grey?

The pictures were found at the Coast To Coast Am website.

Here is the information they have posted and the link:

Was watching CNN-- President Bush was talking about the Housing Market. I believe it was Sep 3rd 2007 and noticed reflection on White House door showing a Gray alien...Fox News also showed this at the same time. [Video stills below.] --Carolyn C.
To see additional photographs follow this link: Story

There you go, proof that President Bush is being controlled by Aliens!

Considering the mess in Iraq and the fact that we cannot find one man, Osama Bin Laden, it would appear to me that if Aliens are controlling the President they must be really, really dumb!

Chinese military hacked into Pentagon

I just discovered the following story. It appears to have been reported by several sites but for those who have not seen it, here it is:

Chinese military hacked into Pentagon

The Chinese military hacked into a Pentagon computer network in June in the most successful cyber attack on the US defence department, say American officials.

The Pentagon acknowledged shutting down part of a computer system serving the office of Robert Gates, defence secretary, but declined to say who it believed was behind the attack.

Current and former officials have told the Financial Times an internal investigation has revealed that the incursion came from the People’s Liberation Army.

One senior US official said the Pentagon had pinpointed the exact origins of the attack. Another person familiar with the event said there was a “very high level of confidence...trending towards total certainty” that the PLA was responsible. The defence ministry in Beijing declined to comment on Monday.

Arsenic alarm in Bihar villages

On Sunday I posted the article, World facing 'arsenic timebomb. You can read it by following this link. Arsenic

I found a new story dealing with arsenic levels.

Arsenic alarm in Bihar villages

Arsenic levels have risen to alarming levels in many districts of the north-eastern Indian state of Bihar, officials say.

A state government survey has revealed that arsenic levels in up to 12 districts of the state of Bihar are now a threat to life.

The state capital, Patna, is among the affected areas.

Reports say villagers in some districts are suffering from bone deformations and a variety of skin complaints.

Waking up early could harm your heart!

Every morning when the alarm clock begins making that hideous beeping sound I think this can't be good for a person to wake up this early. Well now I have proof!

Early rising no good for the heart: study
Thu Sep 6, 8:44 AM ET

Generations have praised the wisdom of getting up early in the morning, but a Japanese study says early-risers are actually at a higher risk of developing heart problems.

The study, conducted by researchers from several universities and hospitals in the western Japanese city of Kyoto, revealed a link between wake-up times and a person's cardiovascular condition.

"Rising early to go to work or exercise might not be beneficial to health, but rather a risk for vascular diseases," said an abstract of the study.

The study, covering 3,017 healthy adults aged between 23 through 90, found that early risers had a greater risk of heart conditions including hypertension and of having strokes.

However, the study also noted that early risers were usually older.

The study is being presented this week at the World Congress of the World Federation of Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine Societies, being held in Cairns, Australia.

A separate study released in June by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania found that chronic sleep deprivation adds stress to the heart, putting a person at greater risk of cardiovascular disease and death.

Since the story is about waking up I have decided to provide a few links about sleep in general.

Syria 'fires on Israel warplanes'

I woke up to read the following news:
Syria says its air defences have opened fire on Israeli war planes which had entered Syrian airspace.

Israeli planes had "dropped ammunition" over desert areas of Syria, before being forced to leave, according to the official Syrian news agency, SANA.

Quoting a Syrian military spokesman, the official agency says the action took place "without causing human or material loss". The Israeli military says it is looking into the reports.

Pupils Burn Witches to death

Many of my readers may remember that a a few days ago I posted a story about four people being beheaded after being accused of being witches. You can read that story here:Witches

Today I have another story involving witches and it is not good news:

Two South African women have been burned to death after a group of students accused them of bewitching their high school with evil spirits.

Msaba Zungu and Thabitha Thusi, both 60, were seized from their homes near Manguzi in KwaZulu-Natal province.

Students and adults dragged them to a sports field where they were doused with petrol and set alight on Sunday.

Manhlenga High School pupils accused the women of being witches after they began to suffer strange crying fits.

Felix and Henriette

There is still a lot of interest in hurricane Felix across the Internet. I want to provide people access to the best information about hurricane Felix and Henriette.

Twin storms pack dangerous winds

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - Felix walloped Central America's remote Miskito coastline and Henriette slammed into resorts on the tip of Baja California as a record-setting hurricane season got even wilder Tuesday with twin storms making landfall on the same day.

To read the rest of this report follow this link:

To track the storms:

Hurricane Felix tracker

Hurricane Henriette tracker

On top of watching both Felix and Henriette it now appears another storm is developing.

The following is from Weather.com

Before getting to Felix, let's start off by mentioning something closer to the United States. We are monitoring an area of low pressure off of the Florida Coast. It has the potential to acquire tropical or subtropical characteristics over the next couple of days.

The system appears to be gaining organization, however, at the moment, northwesterly shear is still inhibiting the disturbance from rapid development. This upper level shear is forecast to subside during the next two days. Even during this very early stage, all interests along the East Coast should monitor this area of low pressure. An Air Force Recon aircraft will investigate this suspect area tomorrow afternoon if necessary.

HAARP

Every few months or so a news story will be released about HAARP. Some readers of this blog may have no idea what HAARP is so before I give the latest news I will give some foundational information.

What is HAARP?
The following is from:
http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/haarp/gen.html

HAARP is a scientific endeavor aimed at studying the properties and behavior of the ionosphere, with particular emphasis on being able to understand and use it to enhance communications and surveillance systems for both civilian and defense purposes.
The HAARP program is committed to developing a world class ionospheric research facility consisting of:
The ionospheric research instrument (IRI), a high power transmitter facility operating in the HF frequency range. The IRI will be used to temporarily excite a limited area of the ionosphere for scientific study.
A sophisticated suite of scientific (or diagnostic) instruments that will be used to observe the physical processes that occur in the excited region. Observation of the processes resulting from the use of the IRI in a controlled manner will allow scientists to better understand processes that occur continuously under the natural stimulation of the sun.
Scientific instruments installed at the HAARP Observatory will be useful for a variety of continuing research efforts which do not involve the use of the IRI but are strictly passive. Among these studies include ionospheric characterization using satellite beacons, telescopic observation of the fine structure in the aurora, and documentation of long-term variations in the ozone layer.

Bad luck for black cats in Italy

The following was found at telegraph.co.uk

Superstition is blamed for killing thousands of black cats in Italy

A leading animal rights group has estimated that 60,000 black cats are killed every year by Italians who believe that they bring bad luck.

The Italian Association for the Protection of Animals and the Environment claims that some are also killed as part of black magic rituals.

While black cats are seen as being lucky in the UK, many people in Italy believe that if a black cat crosses their path it indicates the devil is present. The association calculated its figure from observations of the stray cat population and from monitoring of animal ownership registers. The group said it had evidence that thousands of black cats vanished or were found dead each year.
Across large parts of Europe, black cats have been associated with witchcraft since the Middle Ages and were said to be the favourite companions for witches.
Lorenzo Croce, the association's president, blamed the Church for spreading myths about the animals.

The Catholic Church has perpetuated this idea for centuries and it is now deeply implanted in people's minds," he said.

"For centuries black cats were massacred at the order of priests."
Mr Croce said Italians were very superstitious and more needed to be done to educate people.
"It is mostly uneducated people who would harm a black cat just because of its colour or would abandon a cat like this in the street to fall victim to other superstitious people," he said.

Mr Croce added that many of the cats disappeared around Hallowe'en. He blamed "strange rituals for worshipping evil", and said the perpetrators "need to sacrifice black cats while performing their rituals".

The association wants to hold a Black Cat Day every year on November 17, because the number 17 also holds negative connotations for Italians, who consider it to be as unlucky as the number 13.

It has been suggested that the superstition is related to the Roman numerals for the number 17, XVII, and an anagram of them, VIXI, which in Latin is the past tense of the verb to live.

Mr Croce said: "Our appeal for help to organise Black Cat Day has received a tremendously enthusiastic response from people who love the black cats just as much as all the others.
"We are planning to organise conferences and exhibitions in all major Italian cities, including Rome and Milan.

"The peak of it will be a big public concert in Rome that will celebrate these great, but tragically victimised, felines."

Witches beheaded after boy dies of snakebite

The following story was found at:

FOUR people in eastern India were beheaded after being accused of witchcraft, police said today.
Four people have been arrested after three decapitated bodies were pulled from a river on Wednesday.
“The four arrested people have confessed to killing four people, including three women,” said district police official PK Das, adding that divers were searching the river for the body of the fourth victim.
“So far we have recovered the headless and decomposed bodies of two females and a male. "The body of the fourth female victim is yet to be traced. "Initial clues suggest the murders could be linked to sorcery.”
Police have linked the beheadings to a local village leader, saying they believe council member Siba Singh allegedly ordered the killings in revenge for his teenage son's death from a snakebite two weeks ago.
Villagers told the police that Singh, whose whereabouts are unknown, believed the four murder victims were sorcerers who had plotted the killing of his son, Mr Das said.
“We're investigating from all possible angles,” Mr Das said.

World facing 'arsenic timebomb'

About 140 million people, mainly in developing countries, are being poisoned by arsenic in their drinking water, researchers believe.

Speaking at the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) annual meeting in London, scientists said this will lead to higher rates of cancer in the future.

South and East Asia account for more than half of the known cases globally.
Eating large amounts of rice grown in affected areas could also be a health risk, scientists said.

"It's a global problem, present in 70 countries, probably more," said Peter Ravenscroft, a research associate in geography with Cambridge University.

"If you work on drinking water standards used in Europe and North America, then you see that about 140 million people around the world are above those levels and at risk."

What is arsenic?
Arsenic (IPA: /ˈɑːsənɪk/, /ˈɑɹsənɪk/) is a chemical element that has the symbol As and atomic number 33. Its Atomic Mass is 74.92. Its Ionic Charge is (3-) Its position in the periodic table is shown at right. This is a notoriously poisonous metalloid that has many allotropic forms: yellow (molecular non-metallic) and several black and gray forms (metalloids) are a few that are seen. Deadly cholera outbreak in Iraq

An outbreak of cholera in two northern Iraqi provinces has killed eight people and infected 80 others, the Kurdistan Regional Government has said.

I don't know if this will develop into something very serious but here is some information that may be useful to some:

What is Cholera: From WebMD

General Discussion
Cholera is an acute infectious disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, which lives and multiples (colonizes) in the small intestine but does not destroy or invade the intestinal tissue (noninvasive).

The major symptom of cholera is massive watery diarrhea that occurs because of a toxin secreted by the bacteria that stimulates the cells of the small intestine to secrete fluid.

There are several strains of V. cholerae and the severity of the disease is based on the particular infectious strain.Cholera is not a difficult disease to treat and most people recover well with appropriate oral fluid replacement (hydration).

However, if the disease goes untreated, it can rapidly lead to shock, as a result of fluid and electrolyte loss, and to life-threatening complications.

What is going on?

'Spider-man' suit secret revealed

From the BBC

A "Spider-man" suit that enables its wearer to scale vertical walls like the comic and movie superhero could one day be a reality, according to a study.

Natural technology used by spiders and geckos could help a human climb the side of a building or hang upside down from a roof, the analysis suggests.

The findings are published in the Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter.

Both spiders and geckos possess tiny "hairs" that allow them to stick to surfaces.
Some studies suggest that geckos can hold hundreds of times their own body weight

In 2002, US research suggested this adhesion in geckos was due to very weak intermolecular forces.
These are produced by billions of hair-like structures of different sizes that are arranged in a hierarchical structure on each gecko foot.

The intermolecular "van der Waals" forces arise when unbalanced electrical charges around molecules attract one another.

The cumulative attractive force of billions of gecko hairs allows the reptiles to scurry up walls and even hang upside down on polished glass.

Camp for those who see dead people

WONEWOC, Wisconsin (AP) --

They see dead people on Spook Hill.
They're walking around the grounds, sitting in the dining hall and in the pews at the abandoned church. Kids, heard by visitors but usually only seen by those trained to see into the spirit world, play outside the rustic and run-down cabins.

"Oh yeah, they're all over the place," says Judy Ulch, a jovial 60-year-old who claims not only to see dead people but also receive messages from them that she passes on to their loved ones who pay $40 per half hour for her services.

Sitar master Anoushka Shankar

For Anoushka Shankar, there is legacy and then there is destiny. She is equally respectful of both, but bound to neither. Her ever-growing audience cannot help but acknowledge the familial roots of the young woman coaxing spellbinding spiritual sounds from her sitar, but neither can they deny that she is an innovator in her own right. Her name may have brought her to the stage for the first time as a young girl, but it is her talent and vision that have kept her there.

Schooled in the Indian classical music tradition by the greatest teacher any student could hope to have, maestro and father Ravi Shankar, Anoushka had already dazzled thousands with her accomplished musicianship by the time she had reached her teens. "The younger Shankar revealed herself to be a remarkably promising sitarist," said Time Out New York magazine of the 16-year-old Anoushka in 1997, while a few years later Dubai's Gulf News Panorama noted, "She has accomplished far more than many musicians would do in a lifetime."

Anoushka made her recording debut at 13, appearing on the album In Celebration, a tribute to the works of Ravi Shankar. Two years later she made her debut as a conductor on her father's Chants Of India album produced by close family friend, George Harrison.

HOW MANY CIVILIANS HAVE BEEN KILLED IN IRAQ?

Why are we at war in Iraq? It is a simple question and yet a very important one. From what I can tell, we have been given 3 basic reasons:

1. Weapons of Mass Destruction: This was the first and primary reason we were given. Iraq has Weapons of Mass Destruction and this presents a clear and present danger to America. We all know how that turned out. There were no weapons of mass destruction; in fact, Iraq posed no serious threat to America.

2. To free the Iraqis from the bondage of a tyrant. No one would argue that Saddam was a great guy, but if we are going to argue that we went there to help the Iraq people, we need to examine things and see how successful we have been. Iraqi Civilians are dying - and the numbers of those who have died is alarming. You have to stop and think about this. If we are there to help the people, you would think that we would be saving civilians, not contributing to the death of them. Here is a number of links to reports about the death of civilians in Iraq:

U.S. Airstrikes Take Toll on Civilians

More than 1800 Iraqis killed in August

Marines Ordered To Execute Civilians In Nazi-Like Slaughter Latest evidence compounds catalogue of war crimes

3. To fight terrorists: Within the last year, we have been told that we are in Iraq fighting terrorists, so we won't have to fight them here. This reason may be true, but should we destroy a country and its civilians to fight terrorists?

This is a question that many of us must consider.
